DIRTY PINK

RAY HUGHES GALLERY

“Drawing is a unique language that, if exploited well by the artist, consolidates touch with vision and action with idea. The intention of these drawings is to situate the sensual at the core of looking and to evoke in the spectator an awareness of the physical - both in the production and reception of the work. Whilst appealing to the more carnal realms of our curiosity, the title given to these works ‘dirty drawings’ is an ambiguous ploy to focus attention on the equally dirty ‘hands-on’ aspect of their production. The organic brittleness of charcoal and its ability to produce an incredible variety of marks is as much an interest to me as its ability to be erased and pulverized back into filthy black dust”.
